Why having More won’t make you happy!


When I bought my current house some years ago, I was ecstatic, over the moon and totally in love! The reason was that there were plenty of rooms, loads of bathrooms, lots of space and light, oak floors and a huge garden. It wasn’t overlooked so I could run around naked if I wanted to…

This may seem like the perfect dream home and in many ways it is.

When you actually have more of what you say you want, is it all too much?

  • How much more are the mortgage monthly repayments?

  • Who’s going to mow the lawn?

  • Who’s going to clean all the rooms in the house?

  • Where is the extra money coming from to pay for the higher bills?

  • How long will it take to clean the windows?

  • With this enormous roof, will I have to clean the gutters myself?

  • How much furniture will I need to fill all this extra space?

  • Working out exactly what you do want to satisfy and delight you, without becoming a headache is crucial. So for this you need clarity. Listen to your heart as well as your head. What would truly make you happy? Or is this just “keeping up with the Jones’s?”

  • Great news is that when you pay attention to what makes your heart sing, it gives you clues to what you really want.

  • Here’s something to try:Make a list of 10 things that put a giant smile on your face. You can make a mental list or if you journal write it down. Remember that what gets recorded has a better chance of being realised.

  • When you have a clear picture of exactly what makes you feel alive, then you are on the right path to allow your smart brain to figure out how you can obtain this. When being happy is important to you, you will find a way of getting there. It’s just the same as setting the sat. nav. In your car before you begin your journey. You know what you want (your destination), so now all you need to do is follow the directions. Once you know where you are heading you will begin to see each step to get yourself there. And bear in mind that you don’t need to concern yourself with every twist and turn. One step at a time.

  • Focus on what it is that you are Gratitude for. The universe will hear that you are happy with the things you are thinking about and give you more of the same. Note to self, if you are constantly thinking of what you don’t want or complaining then you will actually end up with more of the same.
